Mayor Rosas proclaims Friday, May 26th "National Poppy Day"

Mayor Rosas proclaims Friday May 26th as National Poppy Day!

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World I to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and represented the hope that none had died in vain; and the Dunkirk American Legion Auxiliary Unit #62 has pledged to remind Americans each year that the men and women who have served and died for their country deserve to be remembered; and the Auxiliary will have poppies available to purchase at various locations throughout the city on May 26, 27, and 28, and citizens are encouraged to donate to this most worthy cause and to wear a poppy to honor and remember the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms. All donations received will be used by the America Legion organization for their programs
that support veterans, the military community and their families. The city urges all residents and visitors to join in observing this day to honor every service member who has died in the name of liberty, freedom and democracy, while also showing their support for living veterans, servicemembers and their families.
