Senior Management officials from Americold today came to Dunkirk to celebrate the grand opening of their new 181,000 square foot cold storage facility.  Americold management and staff members were welcomed and thanked by Mo Sumbundu representing Governor Kathy Hochul and Empire State Development Corporation (ESD), Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel and Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency CEO, Mark Geise , Town of Dunkirk Supervisor Richard Purol, and Mayor Wilfred Rosas.  The project was a $40 million investment in Chautauqua County that will employee 60 people and will provide -20-degree cold storage, primarily for Wells ice cream located in the City of Dunkirk, and has the capacity for 25,000 pallet positions.

Mayor Rosas thanked all of the project partners for all of the behind the scenes efforts collaboratively working to bring this project to fruition and said,  “The Americold facility will have a profound impact on the Dunkirk region; especially with Wells Ice Cream and the tremendous investment in their plant in Dunkirk.”  Mayor Rosas and other local officials toured the facility after the ribbon cutting and came away very impressed at the sheer size of the massive freezer space.
