The City of Dunkirk is committed to furthering fair housing efforts by promoting fair and equal housing opportunities for its residents. The City is committed to making the public aware of the Federal Fair Housing Act (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968) and the New York State Human Rights Law and to supporting programs that will educate the public about the right to equal housing opportunities.
The Federal Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in all housing transactions including, but not limited to, sales, rental, finance, providing reasonable accommodations or modifications to housing or commercial properties based on:
- Race
- Color
- National Origin
- Religion
- Sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation)
- Familial Status
- Disability
- Age (over 40)
- Ancestry
- Pregnancy
