The City of Dunkirk Department of Planning and Development has announced the release of a new Electrical Safety Improvement Program. The goal of this program is to help income eligible homeowners improve their electrical system by converting from fuse box to a circuit breaker system.
This program, the City of Dunkirk Electrical Safety Improvement Program, is structured to update the electrical system of income eligible persons in a manner that meets City and State code. Applicants with fuse boxes are eligible for conversion to a circuit breaker system. Grants are available for up to 100 percent of eligible rehabilitation expenses, not to exceed $5,000. Amounts in excess of these figures will generally not be considered.
The City is hoping to touch improve on 10-15 homes with electrical safety issues.
Those who applied and received grants last year are ineligible for this year’s program. Those who applied last year, and did not receive funding must reapply this year. However, you will still be rewarded points for being on the waiting list.
Applications are available at the Department of Development office, 338 Central Ave., Second Floor Sterns Building, or visit www.cityofdunkirk.com and clink on the development link. Applications for the 2010 program are due June 11 at 12pm.
This program is funded by the City of Dunkirk Community Development Block Grant in cooperation with the U.S. Housing and Urban Development.
