Codes:

The City of Dunkirk has adopted the Building Codes of New York State.

The City of Dunkirk Zoning Code, Chapter 79, is utilized for buildings, structures, and land. It regulates the appropriate use of land with the character of each district.

The City of Dunkirk Property Maintenance Code, Chapter 56, establishes the minimum regulations governing the conditions and maintenance of all property, buildings and structures on the City of Dunkirk.

The Plumbing code of the City of Dunkirk, Chapter 55, requires any plumbing work to be conducted by plumbers licensed by the City of Dunkirk.

The Electrical Code of the City of Dunkirk, Chapter 28, requires licensed electricians to conduct electrical work. Owner occupied one and two family residences are exempt from this requirement. City approved third party inspectors are required to inspect all electrical work.

Zoning Board of Appeals
Appeals of the Zoning Code of the City of Dunkirk are heard on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:00pm in the Dunkirk City Court Room. The deadline to submit appeals is the second Tuesday of the month.

Property Maintenance Board
Appeals of the Property Maintenance Code shall be submitted to the Office of the Housing, Building and Zoning. Hearings will be scheduled after the submission of the appeal. Hearings are held at City Hall.

Electrical Board
The Board meets on the fourth Friday of the month when necessary.
